The shift to alternative powertrains, changes in the global market, shortage of skilled workers, Corona pandemic: the European automotive industry is undergoing a structural upheaval. Not only is demand changing, but the production of the new generation of climate-friendly cars requires adjustments for supply chains, personnel and materials.

This is not only a concern for car manufacturers and their suppliers, but also for the regions and people that depend on value creation in the automotive sector. The sector directly and indirectly provides around 13.8 million jobs EU-wide, which corresponds to around 6.1 percent of total employment. Particularly affected are those regions, which rely almost exclusively on the automotive sector for employment and prosperity.

The future development of the automotive industry in the EU is of central importance to all of us. Therefore, we MEPs Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg, Henrike Hahn and Viola von Cramon-Taubadel would like to shed light on this topic from different perspectives with you and our guests.

Der Umstieg auf alternative Antriebe, Veränderungen auf dem globalen Markt, Fachkräftemangel, Corona-Pandemie: Die europäische Automobilindustrie befindet sich in einem strukturellen Umbruch. Nicht nur die Nachfrage verändert sich, auch die Produktion der neuen Generation klimafreundlicher Autos erfordert Anpassungen für Lieferketten, Personal und Material.

Dies beschäftigt nicht nur die Automobilhersteller und ihre Zulieferer, sondern auch die Regionen und Menschen, die von der Wertschöpfung im Automobilsektor abhängen. Der Sektor bietet direkt und indirekt rund 13,8 Millionen Jobs EU-weit, das entspricht rund 6,1 Prozent der Gesamtbeschäftigung. Besonders betroffen sind solche Regionen, deren Beschäftigungsquote und deren Wohlstand sich fast ausschließlich aus dem Automobilsektor speist.

Für uns alle ist die zukünftige Entwicklung der Automobilindustrie in der EU von zentraler Bedeutung. Deshalb möchten wir Abgeordnete des Europäischen Parlaments Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg, Henrike Hahn und Viola von Cramon-Taubadel mit Ihnen und unseren Gästen dieses Thema von verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchten.
