United for Ukraine - Besuch in Kyiw 08.04.2022
Im Anschluss hat unsere Delegation einen Besuch an die kürzlich von russischen Truppen befreiten Städte Butscha und Irpin vorgenommen. Auch von der im März zerstörten Brücke in Irpin aus, haben wir die zerstörten Gebäude um uns herum sehen können.
Die schrecklichen Bilder und Berichte können die erschütternde Realität vor Ort nicht gebührend wiedergeben. Das Ausmaß der Zerstörung ist unfassbar. Die Berichte der Menschen vor Ort sind erschütternd. Die russische Kriegführung folgt einer Vernichtungsstrategie. Angriffe und Gräueltaten richten sich gegen alle Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer, gegen Frauen, Männer und Kinder. Der eindringliche Appell aller unserer Gesprächspartnerinnen und Gesprächspartner im Parlament und in den zerstörten Wohnvierteln war der Wunsch nach Waffenlieferungen. Die Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer verteidigen ihr Land und unser aller Demokratie gegen den russischen Angriffskrieg. Die Europäische Union muss die Ukraine unterstützen, ihre Verteidigungskapazitäten auszubauen.
Gemeinsam, United for Ukraine, haben wir uns auf sechs dringende Prioritäten geeinigt:
Waffenlieferungen und militäische Unterstützung,
Wiederaufbaupläne,
humanitäre Hilfe,
Sanktionen gegen Russland,
einen Internationalen Gerichtshof für Kriegsverbrechen
und die Integration der Ukraine in die EU.

On Friday, April 8, 2022, I was able to visit Ukraine as part of a group of 35 Members of the European Parliament and from national European countries.
Our very short trip had the goal to get a better picture of the current situation on the ground and to exchange views with our Ukrainian parliamentary colleagues in the Verkhovna Rada.
After our arrival in Kyiv we could meet Ruslan Stefantschuk, the President of the Verkhovna Rada. Afterwards, our delegation paid a visit to the towns of Butsha and Irpin, which were recently liberated from Russian troops.
We were also able to see the ruined buildings around us from the bridge in Irpin, which was destroyed in March. The horrible pictures and reports can’t give a proper impression of the shocking reality on the ground. The extent of the destruction is inconceivable.
The reports of the people on the ground are harrowing. Russian warfare follows a strategy of annihilation. Attacks and atrocities are directed against all Ukrainians, women, men and children. The urgent appeal of all our interlocutors in the parliament and in the destroyed residential areas was the desire for arms deliveries. Ukrainians are defending their country and all of our democracy against the Russian war of aggression. The European Union must support Ukraine in building up its defense capacities.
Both our counterparts in the Parliament and the people on the ground in the devastated cities around Kyiv shared the urgent desire for more arms supplies to defend and defend their homeland.
Together, United for Ukraine, we agreed on six urgent priorities:
Weapon deliveries and military support,
post-war reconstruction and a Marshall Plan for Ukraine,
humanitarian assistance,
sanctions against Russia,
an international tribunal for war crimes and crimes of aggression,
and the integration of Ukraine into the EU.
